He earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Cornell University in 1945 and served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War, retiring as a lieutenant commander. He worked as a civilian for the Navy Department in Washington, D.C., and England, and was a past master of Masonic Petworth Lodge No. 47. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Stuart; a son, Harold of Ferndale, Wash.; daughters Katherine Ketley of Summit, N.J., and Denise Clevinger of Linthicum, Md.; and five grandchildren. Memorial services will be later. National Cremation Society, Sarasota, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
