[New York Wills and Probate Records - Name: Marcus D Fonda; Probate Date: 29 Aug 1895; Probate County: Fulton; Executors: Emily F. Fonda and William J. Fonda]; [US Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863-1865 - Name: Marcus J Fonda; Congr. Dist.: 18th; Res.: NY; Race: White; Class: 1; Est. Birth: 1835; Marital Status: Married]; [It is reported that Marcus Fonda purchased the old Wemple farm, west of Anthonyville (Mayfield?), last week. Gloversville NY Daily Leader, June 11, 1891]

["Mac" Fonda, a farmer residing near Mayfield, was found drowned in the creek on the Vlaie road today. Coroner Phillips was notified this afternoon and left immediately to take charge of the case. Gloversville NY Daily Leader, Friday, August 23, 1895]; [Mac Fonda, a farmer of Mayfleld on the road leading to the old "Stone tavern," was found in a creek back of his house, yesterday morning. When discovered life was extinct. Fonda had been for many years a hard drinking man and had become somewhat embarrassed financially, so much so that the fact, in connection with his irregular habits, affected his credit, so that he was at times pushed to the wall. A week ago he was arrested for stealing poultry from John Warren, a neighboring farmer and was placed under bail. His trial was to have taken place today, at Mayfield. The discovery of his dead body leads many to entertain the idea of suicide, while others think that he fell in the creek while intoxicated. The water at the point where he was discovered is quite shallow and it is not thought that he could by any means possible have met with an accident. Johnstown NY Daily Republican, Saturday, August 24, 1895]; [The investigation concerning the death of Mac Fonda... An autopsy was performed last night by Drs. Ilagar and Goodfellow of this city, the physicians reporting that death was due to heart disease. The unfortunate man was probably walking near the creek when he was stricken and fell into the water, which, at the spot where he was found, was only five inches deep and had nothing to do with the cause of death. At the inquest three witnesses were sworn, and the jury rendered a verdict that Marcus D. Fonda came to his death from organic disease of the heart. The Leader, Gloversville, NY, Saturday, August 24, 1895]
