Jellis Fonda, born about 1670, son of Douwe Fonda, married December 11, 1695, Rachel Winne, daughter of Pieter Winne and Tannetje Adams. He was a gunsmith in Schenectady in 1700. He signed the release of heirs to Pieter Winne's estate January 29, 1703/4. Rachel died June 10, 1727. Jellis died September 8, 1737." [R048a] Old Dutch Families: Fonda Family (De Halve Maen Quarterly): "Descendants of Jellis Fonda (1670) and Rachel Winne settled in Schenectady and Caughnawaga (now Town of Fonda). Jellis had three sons leaving male issue: Douw (1701) Abraham (1715) and Jacob (1722). Douw settled in Caughnawaga in 1751 and was a close friend of Sir William Johnson (see account of his son Major Jellis). He was killed by the Indians in 1780. Abraham and Jacob settled in Schenectady.
