  • Note: General Robert E. Lee ordered a frontal assault on the center of the Union line at Gettysburg, which stretched from Cemetery Hill to Little Round Top, on July 3rd. By early evening, the Confederate brigades involved in the assault had suffered up to 50% casualties and it was clear that the attack had failed. Lee gave the order to withdraw. Harrison was wounded on July 4th in what must have been a rear action skirmish as the Confederate troops retreated. He succumbed to his wounds 74 days later. He is buried in the ring of honor in the Gettysburg National Cemetery in the Indiana section. 1
