  • Note: One family history states that Henry was born in Fulton Co., Pennsylvania. While there is no record of Frederick (his father) ever being in that area, there is nothing definite on his whereabouts before the time he owned Truro (1764-1768) in the Monocacy Valley of Maryland, and then until he appears on the tax records in Bedford Co., Pennsylvania in 1772. Henry and his brother, John, appear on a 1789 list of Brothers Valley men eligible for military service. Henry moved soon afterward to Fayette Co., but did not stay there long, as he purchased "unmeasured" land in East Huntingdon Twp. in 1791, and the next year he had his third child baptized there at Zion Lutheran Church. When Henry was a sponsor for a son of Jacob Fleck, his name was given as August Henry. This supports the theory that his father, Frederick, was indeed a son of Mathias of Monocacy, as he had named his child for his brother, Augustus Heinrich. 1 2
