    Early in the New Year (of 1185) King Henry received an important and not entirely unexpected visitor from Palestine. The Angevin house ruled there as well, Henry's grandfather Fulk having abdicated and spent the last years of his life on crusade in the Holy Land, winning the crown of Jerusalem by marrying the only daughter of the previous ruler. Hence in the crisis following Saladin's new invasions and the accession of Baldwin V, who was a leper, it was natural that an appeal for help should be made to Henry.
