Refer pages 27 - 31 in Book 1 which can be read online at Jane EZZY - First woman to be granted land in the Hawkesbury and pages 54 - 59 in Book 1 which can be read online at Jane EZZY of Sydney Town. On page 54 in Book 1it states :
    The reasons that attracted
    Jane Ezzy
to a life in Sydney Town rather than the Green Hills of the Hawkesbury, remain a mystery. Certainly, so far as we know very few of her descendants took after her in this respect, during the early years, at least. Her daughter,
Sophia, together with her husband, James Dargin, lived in the Town for a short time early in their marriage, when they were conducting the "Bulls Head Inn" in George Street, Sydney. .... Both couples remained for only a few years and then returned to the country areas. Sophia
and James returning to Bathurst, where they had previously spent some time, in earlier years........
....Three weeks after his marriage to Sophia EZZY, James DARGIN was before the Windsor Court on 22 Nov 1824 on a charge of pig stealing and was sentenced to be transported to the Convict Settlement at Port Macquarie for a period of three years. His brother-in-law Joseph WINDRED who was also accused, was sentenced to seven years transportation on the same charge.
.....Port Macquarie was a settlement for second offender or convicts who had comitted a crime after arrival in the Colony. James was confined in Windsor Goal for a time while Petitions were lodged. One was from a settler, John McCABE who stated he had employed James for a period of five years from the age of 13 years and that he was sure that the young man had been led into crime through lack of experience and sheer ignorance. James was removed to Sydney Gaol .The Windsor Court, after considering the various Petitions changed James' place of servitude to Van Dieman's Land and on 5 Jul 1825 James and Sophia went on board the ship "Elizabeth" and set sail for Hobart Town. Mary DARGIN had petitioned that her daughter-in-law, Sophia, be allowed to accompany her son, and her wish had been granted.
....In Windsor Court NSW Australia, on 22 Nov 1824 charged with Pig Stealing and sentenced to be transported to the Convict Settlement at Port Macquarie for a period of seven years. Port Macquarie was a settlement for second offender or convicts who had comitted a crime after arrival in the Colony. Joseph was a Convict who had been transported in 1813, winning a Conditional Pardon in seven years at Windsor, he had married Sophia and was now the father of several children......
