"In England the Patten family claim an ancestry coeval with the Conquest.
Richard Patten, living in 1119, son and heir of Richard Patten, of
Patten House, Chemlsford Co., Essex, had a son and successor, Richard
Patten, who had three sons, Richard, Robert and John. A branch of the
family was settled in Lancashire in the reign of Henry VIII. (1509-1547).
Richard Patten, of Salem, Mass., said to have been born in Edinburg,
Scotland, married in Salem, Mary (Lindall) Thompson, widow, and had two
children - Richard 1st, of Yarmouth, and Mary, who married James Crosby
1st, of Yarmouth.
Patten, Capt. Richard 1st, of Yarmouth, married Mary Rose daughter
Richard 1st; died 1828, Apr 14, and had:............."

Reading this again, I believe Lindall is her maiden name and Thompson would
have been her married name.
