Note: Email received from "mogridge" Yarmouth Herald May 3, 10 and 17, 1898 compiled by George S. Brown "In England the Patten family claim an ancestry coeval with the Conquest. Richard Patten, living in 1119, son and heir of Richard Patten, of Patten House, Chemlsford Co., Essex, had a son and successor, Richard Patten, who had three sons, Richard, Robert and John. A branch of the family was settled in Lancashire in the reign of Henry VIII. (1509-1547). Richard Patten, of Salem, Mass., said to have been born in Edinburg, Scotland, married in Salem, Mary (Lindall) Thompson, widow, and had two children - Richard 1st, of Yarmouth, and Mary, who married James Crosby 1st, of Yarmouth. Patten, Capt. Richard 1st, of Yarmouth, married Mary Rose daughter Richard 1st; died 1828, Apr 14, and had:............."
Reading this again, I believe Lindall is her maiden name and Thompson would have been her married name.
