Note: The Wolcott Probate Records, volumes 2 - 5 arrived on film today, and it's 3 cheers for Ebenezer Wakelee! Vol 3, pp 68-9 shows David Wakelee appointed administrator on the estate of Ebenezer Wakelee late of Wolcott dec'd on 15 Feb 1800. The estate was reported insolvent and the heirs agreed amongst themselves to a distribution on 7 Mar 1800: To Elizabeth widow & relict, L7-0-6; to David Wakelee to pay debts and his equal portion L6-3-3; to the heirs of Elizabeth Warner dec'd dau of Ebr Wakelee dec'd L3-7-3; to Sarah wife of Josiah Barnes L3-8-2; to the heirs of Hannah Frisbie, dec'd, late wife to Reuben Frisbie L3-8-8; all in personal property which totalled L23-7-10. Those signing to acknowledge receipt of their portion: Elizabeth Wakelee by mark, Josiah Barns by mark, Sarah Barns, Mark Warner, Elizabeth Warner, Daniel Frisbie, Ebenr Frisbie, Abigail Frisbie by mark, James Warner, Sarah Warner, David Wakelee, and Joseph Warner Jr.[hbarnes.FTW]
From Anderson's History of Waterbury: "on 2 Jan 1756, he (James Nichols) sold to his brother-in-law, Ebenezer Wakelee all the land in the Park that he then owned and that he was, at that date, living in Salisbury. In 1756 he sold also to Wakelee sundry pieces outside of the Park fence". This refers to Nichols Park in Waterbury, CT. From Orcutt's History of Stratford: An Ebenezer, son of James, went to Waterbury in that part which is now the town of Wolcott, called at the time the "Big Plains", where his father gave him "several hundred acres of land", so said. Ebenezer was a substantial, successful farmer and was probably the first settler in that part of Wolcott, where he resided. David Wakelee appointed administrator on 15 Feb 1800 and estate was represented as insolvent on 27 Feb 1800. On 7 Mar 1800 the heirs agreed to a distribution: to Elizabeth widow & relict personal estate of L7-0-6; to David Wakelee to pay debts and his equal portion L6-3-3; to the heirs of Elizabeth Warner dec'd, daughter of Ebr Wakelee dec'd L3-7-3; to Sarah wife of Josiah Barnes L3-8-2; to the heirs of Hannah Frisbie dec'd, late wife to Reuben Frisbie L3-8-8. The following heirs signed to acknowledge agreement and receipt: Elizabeth Wakelee by mark, Josiah Barns by mark, Sarah Barns, Mark Warner, Elizabeth Warner, Daniel Frisbie, Ebenr Frisbie, Abigail Frisbie by mark, James Warner, Sarah Warner, David Wakelee, and Joseph Warner Jr. (Waterbury Probate 3:68-9.)
