She was originally found as Nancy B. ______, but her descendants Richard LaConte <xenos@foxinternet.net> and Richard Holden <Rah2020@aol.com> know her to be Nancy B. Moore. They are also the source for the 10 children of this union.

I have found a probable connection for Nancy Moore, who was married to Julius Sawtell Holden and lived in Shrewsbury, Vermont in 1850. The only argument against it is a record in the Southborough, MA records that gives her birthdate as 18 July 1798, whereas the census records all seem to indicate that our Nancy should have been born in 1788. However, I found in the 1800 census records for Marlborough, MA that the Carley Moore family had 1 female age 10-16 and none under 10. That indicates to me that somewhere in the translations of the records 1788 was misinterpreted as 1798, not at all an unlikely occurance.

Given this assumption, the ancestry of Nancy Moore would be as follows:
Nancy Moore b 7/18/1788 Southborough, Worcester Co., MA
Carley Moore b 2/18/1752 d 7/17/1804 Marlborough, Middlesex Co. MA m Ruth (last name still unknown, but I'd bet on Brigham)

We know that Nancy's mother was named Ruth, so this tracks. But get this, Nancy had two brothers named Breck Brigham Moore b 7/9/1795 and Hollis Galer Moore b 9/17/1797. Our Nancy named two of her sons Breck and Hollis, so we must be on the right trail.

Based on Steve's thoughts I did some of my own research and have found the ancestors of Nancy B. Moore as they are now shown in this database, and in a Anc Nancy B Moore.GED file, originally created 16 May 2006 and updated 20 June 2006, minor future updates are expected.

In the 1860 census of Shrewsbury she was [age 71], living with Mrs Malinda Rhodes (age 50), Mrs Ruth Moore (age 92), and Charles Holden (age 1 ).

In the 1870 census of Shrewsbury she was age 81, living in the household of son-in-law "Zibia" Flanders and daughter Ruth R. (Holden) Flanders and four sons.

In the 1880 census of Andover, Windsor Co., VT, there is a Nancy Holden, age 91, identified as "mother" in the household of a William Johnson and wife Anna J. Johnson. Until just recently I thought that this census was our Nancy B. (Moore) Holden. I now know that is wrong.

Her name is clearly Nancy Holden in the image of this census on Ancestry.com.

Our Nancy Holden was in Shrewsbury, age 81, living in the household of son-in-law "Zibia" Flanders and daughter Ruth R. (Holden) Flanders. Our Nancy B. (Moore) Holden prob. died after 1870 but before 1880 in Shrewsbury, VT. If she were still living in 1880, she would most likely be in the family of her daughter Ruth R. (Holden) Flanders, and would have been in this household.

She is not there, so I decided to check earlier censuses for the William Johnson family, and this is what I found:

It turns out that her name was Nancy Holden, but badly written by the enumerator.

I looked for a Lewis any surname b. ~1777 in Mass. in the 1860 census of Vermont, there were two, Lewis Holden and Lewis S*. Apparently he is Lewis Holden and his wife is probably Nancy (--?--) Holden. In 1860 they are in Waitsfield.

In other words, the Nancy Holden, age 91, mother, in household of William Johnson, in the 1880 census of Andover, Windsor, Vermont, was Nancy (Kidder) [Johnson] Holden, the second wife of Lewis Holden, and the mother of William A. Johnson by her first husband. And she just happens to be born in the same state and about the same time as Nancy B. Moore.

I now have in my database that Nancy B. (Moore) Holden died, between 1870 - 1880, probably in Shrewsbury, Rutland Co., VT, possibly from the same ailment that took Ziba Flanders in Jan 1871.
