"John Robinson was in his seventeenth year (1592??) when he went to Cambridge Corpus Christi College, where, in February, 1595, he graduated with a B.A., and four years later with a M.A. In 1602, he was still a Fellow of the College." (Plooij - The Pilgrim Fathers From A Dutch Point Of View - Page 37)
"In 1604, we find Robinson as a preaching elder at St. Andrews Church in Norwich; and on February 15, 1604, the marriage register of the parish church of St. Mary's at Greasly, Notts., mentions the wedding of Mr. John Robynson and Mistress Bridget Whyte." (Plooij - The Pilgrim Fathers From A Dutch Point Of View - Page 37)
"...in July 1604, a proclamation was issued requiring that all ministers should conform to the new Book of Canons before the end of November, the conflict was unavoidable. ... The consequence was that Robinson was suspended from his office as a preacher, and those laymen who went to hear his preaching were excommunicated. He was left without a living, with his wife and his two children. So he departed from Norwich, and probably went to Sturton-le-Steeple, where he and his family could live with their parents until some new prospects should open for them." (Plooij - The Pilgrim Fathers From A Dutch Point Of View - Page 38)
Source: Thomas Hatch of Barnstable p. 273-4 He matriculated at Corpus christi, Cambridge in 1592. He lived some time in County Norwitch, Norfolk, England "a man worthily reverenced of all the city for the grace of god in him." In 1604 he identified himself with the Nonconformists and in 1608 was chosen pastor of the Puritans gathered at the residence of William Brewster at the village of Scrooby in Nottinghamshire. --James Kaufman
He moved with the church in the winter of 1607-8 to Amsterdam, Holland where he preached to a band of followers for a year. His flock settled in Leyden, Holland and became the Pilgrims. The band then went to Provincetown, Mass, landing at Plymouth, 11 Dec 1620. He remained in Leyden, when the Pilgrims left in July 1620, intending to rejoin them but died before arrangements were made to transport to America. The names and dates of his children are taken from a census list of Leyden, Holland dated 15 Oct. 1622. -- James J. Kaufman
