Grandma Nichols virtually raised me (Charles Goodman) when I came to live with her in 1935, because my mother worked. She also raised my cousin Helen from an infant after her mother died in 1919. She was a strict disciplinarian but had a heart of gold. She was a staunch Anglican and member of St. Jude's Church in West Saint John. She was a member of the WA. She told me how proud she was to see my name and that of uncle George on the Roll of Honour which hangs on the wall of St. Jude's Church of those who served in the wars .
Helen said that when she went to the Ottawa Civic Hospital to train as a Nurse that Grandma Nichols made all her uniforms and aprons. She was an expert seamstress and made many quilts at the church WA.
