  • Given Name: Lindsey
  • Surname: Page
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: 20 AUG 1774
  • Death: BEF JUL 1822 in ,Warren Co.,Kentucky
  • Note:
!We have listed him as a son of Joseph Page, but he might have been a son of James Page of Amherst Co., Virginia. See explanatory notes below.

!He was in the Amherst Co. Virginia tax lists from 1795-1801 and 1806-1807 and then in the Nelson Co. Virginia tax lists from 1809-1810. He must have gone from there directly to Warren Co., Kentucky.

    !1810 census Warren Co., Kentucky:
Lindsey Page 2101-1211 His age 26-44

    !The 1820 Warren Co. census:
Linsey Page 511101-02110 (From Amherst Co., Virginia) His age >45

    Dan,
Henry PAGE either posted a marr. bond or md. Rebecca H. SMITH on 24 Apr 1834 in Warren Co., KY. They were md. by R. B. Collins. I got this information at the Warren Co., KY courthouse in 1983. (Warren Co.,
    KY Marriage Bonds 1797-1870, Bk. A: 208)
This Henry PAGE is "probably" the son of Lindsey PAGE (and wf. Mary CAMPBELL) who had a son named Henry who is said to have posted a bond on 21 Nov 1834 in Warren Co. to marry Rebecca H. SMITH. However, I believe that the date that I obtained at the Warren Co., KY courthouse is the correct one as it came right from "the horse's mouth" (so to say).
I haven't done any research to PROVE that this Henry PAGE is actually the son of that Lindsey PAGE; but, if he is, Lindsey PAGE was the son of James PAGE and his wife Lucy NORVELL of Amherst Co., VA (marr. bond posted there on 31 Oct 1793.
    Hope this helps. Dolores

    !Comments from Dolores:
"My information on that Henry PAGE of Warren Co., KY came from a descendant of one of his siblings. He has that Henry's grandfather was James PAGE of Amherst Co., VA who was a minister. James md. Lucy
NORVELL on 2 Aug 1765 (don't know where). James kept a record of his family in his "Book of Common Prayer". I only wish that he had included the information about his parents.
I found Linsey PAGE first in the 1795 Personal Property Tax Lists of Amherst Co., VA and he was there from 1796-1801 and 1806-1807, but not from 1802-1805. He evidently died sometime between 1820 and 1830
as his widow was listed in the Warren Co., KY censuses of 1830 and 1840. In 1850, she was living with her son Wm. S. PAGE and his family. I haven't read the subsequent censuses for her."

!We should remark here that researchers have reported Lindsey to be a son of Joseph Page, but also of James Page. Accordingly, we have not listed descendants pending resolution of his parentage. e.g. See the following email. Note the confusing mention of Amherst Co. Virginia and Warren Co., Kentucky:

Billie, this is good info. Don't hesitate to share it with the entire group. I hope I am not overstepping bounds by forwarding your info on to those in my personal "Exolheath Page Core Research Group".
For all of you, it's my impression that Billie has done a lot of good research and has accumlated a lot of facts. If not a lot directly about PAGE, at least a lot about associates of PAGE. For example, notice that her message below mentions children of James and Lucy Norvel Page's son Lindsey, and her ancestor AMBROSE CAMPBELL SR. and his parents, Ambrose and Patick Campbell being seen as bondsmen in some of the PAGE and associate marriages I mentioned previously. Also remember that Billie also is a descendent of the ALLCOCK who married into the ENNIS family of Sally, who married Axel H. Page in 1807? Amherst County VA.
I've collected almost everything I can on people of surname MARTIN of Amherst County VA and Warren County KY areas, but mostly just looked for individual CAMPBELL of those areas. But it appears that it would be more worthwhile to do a complete compilation on every record on every CAMPBELL of Amherst, Nelson, Albemarle counties VA or more, including probably Goochland and Kings & Queen counties etc, and of course those applicable counties of KY.
By the way, I couldn't find who the bondsman was for Lindsey Page's second marriage to May "Polly" Duncan in 1808 NELSON County VA. Anyone know offhand?
The BONDSMEN to the early marriages of people in our trees is important to trace, but I haven't seen many if anyone do so. For example as we just saw that certain Campbells or Campbell family members acted as bondsman to PAGE individuals who we didn't (or still don't) know were related. And somewhere in the wills or other records of those bondsmen, we eventually should find references to PAGE or members of PAGE families. My sister Donna gets impatient with me about chasing spouses and other associates, but when you can find no other info on your target PAGE, what better way to use our research time?

    Dear Art,
Thanks for all the information that you sent. I descend from Henry Campbell & his wife Charity (Catlett?) through their son, Ambrose Campbell, Sr. who married Margaret Unknown, (she may have been Indian as one of the grandmothers was, because Judah Page, daughter of Lindsay Page & Mary Polly Campbell was said to be Indian. That would make her full sister, Lucy Henry Page Allcock part Indian too.)
Children of Henry Campbell & Charity: Catherine Campbell born 1740, John Campbell born
1741, Joel Campbell born 1747, Mildred A. Campbell born 1749, Ambrose Campbell, Sr. born
1751, Rachel Campbell born 1755, & Aaron Campbell born 1757. Ambrose Campbell, Sr. married Margaret Unknown and Joel Campbell married Nancy Mills. Joel Campbell's daughter,
Martha Ann Stilley Campbell married Oct. 7, 1790 in Amherst Co., VA to Joseph Reynolds Allcock, son of Richard Allcock & Frances Reynolds of Amherst Co., VA. Joseph & Stilley went to Warren Co., KY. Ambrose Campbell & Margaret Unknown Campbell's daughter Mary Polly Campbell married Lindsay Page and he married secondly, Mary Polly Duncan. Lindsay Page & Polly Duncan Page went to Warren Co., KY. William Allcock of Amherst Co., VA married 2ndly to Catey Page, daughter of James Page & Lucy Norvell Page. They had a son Norvell Spencer Allcock who went to Warren Co., KY where he married Lindsay Page & Mary Polly Campbell Pages' daughter Lucy Henry Page. Norvell S. Allcock & Lucy H. Page were first cousins as both were grandchildren of James Page & Lucy Norvell Page. It seems like alot of kin from Amherst Co., VA went to Warren Co., KY.
I don't know too much about the Ennis or Innes families. I just know that they were in the family more than just once. Regards, Billie Lee

    Subject: Lindsay Page's second marriage
    Dear Art,
I do not have a copy of Lindsay Page's second marriage in Nelson Co., VA on Oct. 7, 1808. When I was in Nelson Co., VA years ago the male clerk of court would not let me copy the old records so I do not have that marriage bond, if there is one. I would like to have a copy if there is anyone who has one. I am a descendant of Lindsay Page & Mary Polly Campbell, his first wife and I do have copies of records from Amherst Co., VA. The following are the children from his first marriage: Judah Page b. 1794, Margaret "Peggy" Page born 1795, Mary Polly Page b. June 1, 1798, Lucy Henry Page b. Feb. 17, 1800, & Ambrose Page b. 1803. I don't know who Judah was named after, but Margaret was named after Margaret Campbell, wife of Ambrose Campbell. Mary Polly Page was name after her mother, Mary Polly Campbell. Lucy Henry Page was named after Lucy Norvell Page, her grandmother and also her middle name was after her great grandfather, Henry Campbell. Ambrose Page was named after his grandfather Ambrose Campbell. The Campbell family seems to have been important when it came to naming the children. I would love to know where the name Judah or Judy came from in the family, but I have no idea.
The children of Lindsay Page and his second marriage to Mary Polly Duncan are the following: Henry Page b. abt. 1810, Samuel Page b. abt. 1811, Sarah Sally Page b. 1815, William S. Page b. abt. 1818, & Andrew Hamilton Page. William S. Page, may have been William Spencer Page, named after Lucy Norvell Page's mother Anne Spencer, who was married to James Norvell, Sr., b. abt. 1700 St. Paul's Parish, VA, who died in Albemarle Co., VA in 1789/1790. James Norvell, Sr. & Anne Spencer had abt. 12 known children. Lucy Norvell Page had a brother named William Norvell and also one named Spencer Norvell. Lucy Norvell Page's sister, Betty Norvell b. abt. 1753, was married in Goochland Co., VA in 1771 to Peter Lyon and they removed to Amherst Co., too. I do not know anything about the Duncan family, but seems to me that the name Samuel may have come from the Duncan family. Maybe the marriage record of Lindsay Page & Mary Polly Duncan may help. In Warren Co., KY the Allcock family of Joseph Reynolds Allcock are buried in a Cemetery back in a farm field known as the Sam Duncan Farm. I wonder if there was any connection there.
    Regards, Billie Lee
