Hugh was a prisoner during the Civil War. A record of his parole is in the National Archives. He was in Gray's 28th Regiment. He was paroled at Nachitoches June 14, 1865, just one month after Lincoln's Assassination. He was just 18 years old.
In the winter of 1900-1901, Hugh Walter Warren was building a house. The weather was very cold and wet. He caught pneumonia and died. The property is located on Gansville Road between Gansville and Dodson, Louisiana, 3 1/2 miles in the middle of the two towns. Mary Viola Warren Shores furnished the information about HW's death. She was born in 1895 and remembers him. Location of the Warren homestead recalled by Ethel Warren Kern. Both granddaughters.(1991)
