    DEED: Patent to Thomas McGEAUGH & Patrick DEMPSEY [MdHR Liber IC #M Folio 662-663] 13 Dec. 1799 {MDHR 17,475, 1-23-4-31} "The state of Maryland know ye that whereas Elizabeth McGEAUGH of Harford County had laid out for her a tract of land called Travellers Rest containing 200 and 54 acres & quarter of an acre being part of the reserved land in said county in virtue of an assignment from John McGEOUGH who purchased part of said reserved land of the Intendant of the issue, a certificate of which survey hathe been returned do the western shore land office, And whereas the said Elizabeth McGEAUGH did by an assignment bearing date the 24 day of April 1799 transfer & make over all her right, title claim and interest of land to the said certificate & the land therein mentioned to Thomas McGEAUGH & Patrick DEMPSEY and it appearing by a receipt of the treasurer of the western shore endorsed on the certificate aforesaid, that the purchase money for said land hath been fully paid. The state of Maryland doth hereby grant unto the said Thomas McGEAUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY the said tract or parcel of land called TRAVELLERS REST lying in Harford County aforesaid. Beginning at two Bounded Spanish Oak saplins standing on the North side of the main branch of Broad Creek on the South West side and within 50 yards of a spring emptying into said branch and running thence N 86 degrees W 40 perches to a stone thence N 53 degrees W 97 perches to a Bounded Chestnut saplin by and on the North side of said branch of said creek thence S 41 degrees W 60 perches to a Bounded Black Oak saplin thence S 50 degrees W 23 perches and a half to a Bounded Black Oak one of the boundaries of a tract of land called PADDYS LAST SHift thence with said tract S 52 degrees and 1/4 W 101 perches to a stone near a road thence S 52 degrees E 72 perches to a Bounded Chestnut saplin by said road thence bordering on the raod S 22 degrees and 3/4 E 40 perches to a place S 76 degrees W half a perch distant from a Bounded White Oak saplin N 76 degrees E 75 perches to a Bounded Black Oak saplin thence S 36 degrees E 26 perches S 9 degrees E 34 perches and 1/2 to a Banded Chestnut saplin thence East by South 52 perches till it intersects the first line of a tract of land called "HARRYS DELIGHT" thence bounding on said land reversaly N 69 degrees E 30 perches to a Bounded White Oak the beginning of said land thence N 11 degrees and a 1/2 E 86 perches to a place E N E 4 perches distant from a Bounded White Oak saplin thence E N E 50 perches to a Bounded White Oak thence by a straight line to the beginning containing and laid out for 254 Acres and 1/4 of an acre more or less according to the certif- icate of survey thereof taken and returned into the land office bearing date the 29th day of March 1787 and thus remaining, together with all rights, profits, benefits and privileges there unto belonging To Have and To Hold the same unto him the said Thomas McGEAUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY their heirs and assigns forever as tennants in common and not as joint tennants in common and joint tenant to take by survivorship.     DEED: 1803 [MdHR HD R 172] Thomas McGEAUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY to John DEMOSS "Travellers Rest" Delivered Mr. John DEMOSS March 20th 1804. This inden- ture made this seventeenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three Between Thomas McGOUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY both of Harford County in the State of Maryland planters of the one part and John DEMOSS of County and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Thomas McGOUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY for and in consideration of the sum of eight hundred and eighty nine Spanish Milld Dollars of the value of Seven shillings and six pence each current money of Maryland four hundred Dollars being paid in hand and bonnds with security for the remainder by the said John DEMOSS before the signing sealing and delivering of these presents - the receipt wherof they the said Thomas McGOUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY doth hereby acknowledge and thereof acquit and discharge the said John DEMOSS his executors, administrators and assigns, they the said Thomas McGOUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY hath granted bargained and sold assigned, aliened ensceossed, conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell, assign, alien ensceoss (?) convey and confirm to him the said John DEMOSS his heirs and assigns forever part of a tract or parcel of land called "TRAVELLERS REST", situate lying and being in Harford County and State aforesaid. Beginning for the said part at the beginning or boundry of the whole tract being two Bounded Spanish Oak saplings standing on the North side of and within 7 perches of the main branch of the Broad Creek on the South West side and within 50 yards of a spring emptying into the said brance and running thence S 86 degrees W 40 perches to a stone thence N 53 degrees W 15 perches to a stone marked T T thence S 39 degrees W 124 perches to a stone marked L J thence S 41 degrees E 39 perches and 3 quarters of a perch to a stone marked T T thence S 55 degrees W 12 perches, to the beginning of the the 9th line of the whole tract, thence S 36 degrees E 26 perches, S 9 degrees E 34 perches and an half to a Bounded Chestnut sapling thence E by S 52 perches till it intersects the first line of a tract of land called "HARRYS DELIGHT". Thence bounding on said land precisely N 69 degrees E 30 perches to a Bounded White Oak the beginning of said lannd and one of the boundaries of a tract of land called "BELLEFARM" thence N 11 degrees (unreadable) E 81 perches to a place thence E N E 4 perches (unreadable) or in any wise appertaining and all right Title and (unreadable) Thomas McGOUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY therein and thereto. To Have and To Hold the said part of a tract or parel of land as above described with the premises, and appurtenances to him the said John DEMOSS his heirs and assigns forever to his annd their only use and benefit and for no no other intent or purpose whatever and the said Thomas McGOUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY for themselves and their heirs further covenants and agrees to and with the said John DEMOSS for himself and his heirs and assigns that they the said Thomas McGOUGH and Patrick Dempsey and their heirs th above Bargained and sold premises and appurtenances against them the said Thomas McGOUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY and their heirs and against all and every other person and persons whatever claiming or to claim by, through or under them the said Thomas McGOUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY or their heirs, unto the said John DEMOSS his heirs and assigns, shall and will warrent and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said Thomas McGOUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY hath hereunto set their hands and seals, the day and year first above written. Signed, sealed and Delivered. In presence of Nich. D. Be it remembered that on the 17th day of October in the year eighteen hundred and three the within named Thomas McGOUGH and Patrick DEMPSEY came before us, the subscribers, two Justices of the peace for said County and did acknowledge this Indenture to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and at the same time came Sarah McGOUGH, wife to the afs'd Thomas McGOUGH and Elizabeth DEMPSEY, wife of the aforesaid Patrick DEMPSEY and being by us privately examined by us out of the hearing of their said husbands did release theri right of Dower in and to the aforesaid land unto the aforesaid John DEMOSS, his heirs and assigns forever.
