LAND RECORDS of HARFORD COUNTY MAGEAUGH, Elizabeth, John, James, Miles, Thomas to Hugh Whitford, Deed dated {MdHR 1788 JLG K 153} Mentions Will of 25 May 1784 in which Miles gave land to wife and 4 sons. NOTE: This Will is not in Harford, Baltimore or surrounding counties. I have searched personally in the MDHR in Annapolis.
{The relationship of Miles to the Cambria County McGOUGHS is still unclear because Catholic records have not been found to support any theories. I believe that Miles is "our" James' Grandfather. Did he emigrate with a wife or did he marry Elizabeth SPENCER? Or is she the wife of John McGOUGH, eldest son. IF he married in the US then our James and brother Patrick came alone OR Miles may have married in Ireland and brought the whole family over including married son, John with 2 sons (our James & brother Patrick). Elizabeth SPENCER may not be related at all! Another possibility is that Miles and family emigrated, his wife died and he then married Elizabeth SPENCER. I believe Elizabeth may have died then all moved to PA. Miles Jr, James, Thomas but perhaps not John were all at Loretto in the early 1800s before several families moved on to OH}.
Quote from "Our Harford Heritage" ""The Catholic Church had its beginning in Harford County before 1750. There is every reason to believe that services were held soon after 1700, as the Jesuits had a mission at Bohemia in Cecil Co as early as 1750 & it is probable that the Catholic Church on Deer Creek was attended by this mission."" {The St Ignatius records (1735-1815) have been lost over the years}.
