Pap began work in coal mine at age 14. He was injured in a mine accident then delivered groceries for Kirby's store until he was able to go back to the mine. Loved the farm and always wore a baseball cap. Swore like most people talk, naturally, and always had a chew of tobacco in his mouth. He stopped going to church when one of the younger sons was born but he always kept Holy Days and never ate meat on Fri. He was very thin but ate heartily and worked hard. He always had a smile.
