ase was the surgeon superintendent on board.
William John [Ripper] Williams was killed in Broken Hill in 1893, and he w
as 44 years old. The records there are clear because a plumbob was dropp
ed on him - he used to inspect the shorings in the mines for safety. His d
eath caused some consternation because the people, who dropped it on hi
m, obviously were not practicing safe procedures.Unfortunately as the cur
ator for the Mining Accidents Memorial List said, itwas in the 'pre-compe
nsation period'.
