    Marriage: Many have looked at published records and assumed
    this John DURRETT
    married Catharine Goodloe, born 01 May 1720, (National Society of Colonial Dames of America. Virginia , Parish Register of Christ Church, Middlesex Co., VA.,--- Richmond , 1897, -p. 105)
    however, the records regarding land patents and deeds show that this John had a wife Mary before and after 25 Nov 1748, the date
    of the will of Henry Goodloe in which he mentioned daughter Catherine (Katharine), wife of John Durrett. (William Armstrong Crozier, Spotsylvania Co., 1721-1800 pg. 9)
    On Feb. 20, 1766 John DURRETT of Spotsylvania County and Richard DURRETT
    of Albemarle County gave George MARTIN of Albemarle Co. a slave girl Delphia. After the death of George MARTIN, the slave and her increase were to be divided between Sally and Susannah MARTIN, daughters of George MARTIN "by his last wife Molly".-Albemarle Co., VA., Deed Book 4, p234, recorded 4 July 1766.

    Birth: John appears in Spotsylvania County, VA and other county records from 1726 to 1773 . On 14 Dec. 1739 in Caroline County. John DURRETT and Mary his wife acknowledge their deeds for lease and release of land indented to " Barthw. DURRATT . ( J.F.Dorman, CAROLINE COUNTY, VA., ORDER BOOK 1732- 1740, pt. 3 -Washington 1967-,p. 72)
    This may have been part of his 400 acre patent dated 29 June1739 for land on the south side of Ta River. Virginia Land Patent Book 18. pg. 336

    On 02 Sep. 1742 John DURRETT and Mary his wife of St. George Parish, Spotsylvania County, VA. sold for 20 pounds 200 acres of land in St. Marks Parish, Orange Co., being one-half of a tract patented to John 08 Sept. 1732. Virginia Land Patent Book 14,pg 530; Orange Co., VA., Deed Book 8, pp 224-, recorded 23 Sept1742.
    On 14 Nov 1751 John DURRETT and Mary his wife of Spotsylvania Co. sold for 40 pounds 390 acres, all of a patent to John dated05 Aug 1731. Virginia Land Patent

    GENERAL:
    The DURRETT FAMILY is said to be Huguenot and in publications of the Huguenot Society of London is found the name of Francis Parrain de DURETT, son of Paul Parrain de DURETT by Antonia, his wife, born at Bourges, in Berry France. W.A. Shaw, ed., LETTERS OF DENIZATION AND ACTS OF NATURALIZATION FOR ALIENS IN ENGLAND AND IRELAND, 1701-1800 (Huguenot Society of London, PUBLICATIONS,v. 27; Manchester, 1923) p. 38
    Francis Parrain de DURETT took the oath of naturalization on 25Feb 1702/3. ibid., p. 43..... This could be the Francis Durrett of the 1724 land patent in VA but no
    record has been found to support this identification. The Virginia Genealogist, vol 15 p4.
