4) were the first generation to adopt an anglicized spelling of the fami
ly name; before then, the surname showed up as 'ap Rees', Rees, Reec, Ric
e, Rhees, Preecs, Preece, Prees, Preese, Preeze, Priest, Prys, etc. The
ir father, when he appeared in Pennsylvania records, was usually record
ed as 'Preece' or 'Prees'."
Richard Price had been Sheriff of Russell County, Virginia, and a memb

In 1788 Richard Price founded a church in his house. It continues tod
ay as the Elk Garden United Methodist Church, which erected a monume
nt on its 200th anniversary in 1988 recognizing Richard Price for establis
hing it. The monument is erected on the hearthstones from Price's origin
