    1832, august, onslow county, n.c. john makes an application for a pensi
    on for his service in the revoluntionary war. he would be granted a pensio
    n. john resided in pasquotank county, n.c. at the time of the revolutio
    n. he went to portsmouth in virginia and enlisted. he served three year
    s. john said he was engaged in a skirmish with the british about eighte
    en miles from cape charles. they retook possession of browns brig which h
    ad been taken by the british. capt bracey ordered his regiment down to whe
    re the brig lay, a severe contest ensued, and the brig was retaken and t
    he britsh were taken prisoners and sent to petersburg in va.
    1837 november 2. john dies without a will.

    24nov1837 obituary of john riggs in the new bern spectator. "in onslow cou
    nty, at the age of 94, mr. john riggs, a soldier of the revolution. mr rig
    gs was a cart-wheel-wright, enjoyed excellent eyesight throughout his o
    ld age, and what is more the purpose in our thinly peopled country, his of
    fspring amounted at the time of his death to one hundred and three.
