LATER SETTLERS.- William A. Cartwright, a native of Rhode Island, came to Amity among the early settlers. He was a farmer. He married a Davis and had 3 sons and 4 daughters. John C., his son, was born in 1812, married Hannah, daughter of Spaulding Burdick, and located to Bolivar, from there removed to Belmont where he died in 1862. His second wife was Mary Ballou; of their four children two are living. Avilah Cartright, son of John C. and Hannah B. Cartwright, born March 27, 1836, married Mrs. Dyantha (Aldrich) Irish in 1860. In 1864 he enlisted in Co. I, 85th Regt., N. Y. Vols., which being previously captured at Plymouth, N. C., he served in detachment to the 80th N. Y. V. V. I. He was discharged July 15, 1865, where he returned to Belmont where he lived until 1879 when he settled in West Almond. He is a farmer, has been justice of the peace 10 years, is now (1895) supervisor. His first wife died Dec. 24, 1876. He married, second, Emma A., daughter of John and Ruth (Gillett) Renwick, of West Almond. ____________________________________________________ In the 1800 US Census, New York, Rensselaer County, Petersburg Township.
