    A, under Capt Henry Van Horn Note: a B. Van Horn, in Ohio, verified for Jo
    hn Slack (1754-1838) that he was a fifer in the Revolutionary War, so fami
    lies must have been friends for generations.

    Event: Moved after the Revolution, some believe Abraham probably follow
    ed older Slacks into Virginia - likely it was another. The Slack, Huddlest
    on, and Martin families moved to Kanawha and Fayette Counties in Virgin
    ia together. However, records indicate otherwise.

    During the Revolutionary War, Abraham was Private in a Pennsylvania Regime
    nt from Newton, PA under the command of Captain Henry Van Horn, enlisti
    ng Dec 26, 1776. See Pennsylvania Archives, 2nd series, Vol 14, p 175 a
    nd Pennsylvania Archives, 5th series, Vol 5 p 304. He died near Lynchbur
    g, VA in what was then Bedford Co, VA.
    There are conflicting accounts on Abraham's second wife. One record says t
    hat his second wife was Ann Mathews in 1810. The DAR Patriot Index lists h
    is second wife as Mary Huddleston. Ref 10 & 16 indicate that Abraham's se
    cond wife was Mary Patterson Huddleston -- my database reflects this.

    Mary Patterson married Abraham Huddleston in Bucks Co, PA. The Huddleston
    's moved to Bedford Co, VA in 1775. Abraham Slack (and Elizabeth?) also mo
    ved from Bucks Co, PA to Bedford Co, VA shortly thereafter. Abraham Huddle
    ston died in 1785 and it appears that Elizabeth Torbet Slack must have di
    ed around 1795. At that point, Abraham Slack and Mary Patterson Huddlest
    on -- both widowed -- married each other on the same day that their childr
    en married.
