Absalom enlisted on 18 May 1838 as a pvt. in Capt Bogges' Company of Georgia Volunteers for the Seminole War. Discharged on 26 Jun 1838 at Nahunta, in 1882 (from Traveler's Rest, Coosa County, Alabama) he applied for a U.S. veterean's pension based on disability (rupture sustained during military service) There is no record as to whether or not he was granted a pension. He says that since 1838, had lived in Carroll Co, Ga and Coosa Co, Al. Land grant #403 shows that he was granted 40 acres in Montgomery, Co, AL on 2 Oct 1854.

(from "Terrell Trails" Winter, 1985): Absalom was raised on his father's farm near Prividence Baptist Church, Shadydale, Jasper Co, Ga until abt 1820 when the family moved to Henry Co near the Phillipi Meeting House were they resumed farming. After his father's death, he lived with his mother until Aug 1833 when he married Margaret Bessells in Henry Co.
