    BOON, J. D. Born and reared in Ohio; then came to Oregon and settled in the Willamette Valley, where he farmed for some time, after which he went into the mercantile business in Salem, and carried it on for several years. Was elected to a territorial office, and when Oregon became a State, was chosen the first State Treasurer. Married Miss Martha J. Hawkins, by whom he had seven children.
