Capt. Samuel White of Whitestown (now Idaville), Pa., served in the Pa. Militia during the War of 1812 in the invasion of Canada and was captured and held as a prisoner of war. John E. White was drafted in the Civil War. In 1865, he and his family moved from Pennsylvania to DeWitt Co., Illinois. There, they joined the Presbyterian Church. In 1871, they moved to Woodriver, Hall Co., Nebraska. They witnessed the great grasshopper raid. In the Fall of 1877, they moved to Reno Co., Kans., where John farmed southeast of Hutchinson.
