    Sally Blake was born in the stockade of Fort Harmar whose site is now within the city of Marietta. Her father, David Blake, had joined the militia which was stationed at Fort Harmarshortly after his marriage 3 September 1785 in Reheboth, MA to Rebecca Daggett.
    According to family tradition the family moved to Scioto County shortly after her marriage, where sometime between 1811 and 1813, John Phelps died. Sally removed to Marietta where on December 16, 1813 she married Rev. John Strait, who was one of the early Baptist preachers in Washington County.
