  • ID: I410
  • Name: William DWYER
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: Abt 1834
  • Death: 1 OCT 1854 in Henry Co.,Iowa
  • Note: From records & files: He is probably living with his maternal uncle, Martin Lee, after the death of his mother. In Jan. 1854 he and others, likely a sister, Lucinda, have the flu which leaves him quite debilitated and feeble. He wishes to marry Lydia Matilda Jane Wood who is about age 15. He petitions the court to have Martin Lee appointed his guardian because he is a minor, and is granted permission to marry. Lydia, at the same time, has her older brother, James M. Wood, Jr., give consent to marry on her behalf. It is likely that he was aware he wouldn't live long and wanted to marry Lydia. (His will is probated with expenses listed for boarding and nursing, plus medicine for himself and his sister, Lucinda, as well as paying someone to tend to his cattle while he is ill.) They marry August 17, 1854 in the home of James M. Wood, Jr., and he dies only a few months later in Oct. 1854.
