    Sawyer only gave us two children of this couple: Irene and Clarinda.
    Phillip Conder was bom in 1793 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, son
    of Lewis and Elizabeth Muller Conder, Sr. He grew to manhood on his
    father's farm located on the waters of Crooked Creek.
    In 1820 he married Sophia Byrum in Mecklenburg Co., N. C. whose mother,
    Catherine Byrum was bom in Virginia and is 81 years old in the 1850
    census of Union County, N. C. living with Phillip and Sophia. Census
    records show they had two sons and six daughters. The oldest son, Irenus,
    was a Lutheran Minister and served "old St. Peter's Church" near the area
    in Virginia where his grandmother, Elizabeth Muller, was bom.
    The court records show Phillip buying land, 65 acres November 1840 on
    Crooked Creek "next to said Conder", and on Feb. 18, 1841, two more
    tracts of 58 acres each on Crooked Creek in Mecklenburg County, N. C. His
    propery fell into Union County when part of Mecklenburg County, N.C. was
    cut off to form a portion of Union County in 1843.
    Phillip was a member of Morning Star Lutheran Church, the oldest Lutheran
    Church in Mecklenburg County. The church records reveal that he was one
    of the outstanding members, having been elected an Elder on February 19,
    1850. He served on the committee for completion of Morning Star Meeting
    House. Six of his children are listed in the baptismal records 1829-1851.
    He died June 1, 1861 and is buried in the cemetery.
