  • Note: James Richard "Dick" Elder Sr., of Greensburg, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, in his home. He was born Dec. 6, 1920, a son of the late O. Perry and Susan Elder. Dick was also preceded in death by his wife, H. Louise (Lerch) Elder; a son-in-law, John T. Grace; a sister-in-law, Fern Elder; and a brother-in-law, John ``Jack' Lerch. Dick is survived by his loving children, Karen L. Grace of Greensburg, Dr. James R. Elder Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Washington and Gary A. Elder and wife, Linda, of Maryland. Dick was a special grandpa to Brian T. Grace and wife, Vikki, Dr. Mark R. Grace and wife, Dr. Kristine Grace, Doug, Trisha, Kevin Elder and wife, Ellen, and Erin; great-grandchildren, Alicia and Tommy Grace and Joshua and Katie Grace; a sister, Nancy Roddy and husband, Dale; a brother, Pat Elder; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Lerch; and many nieces and nephews. Dick was a 60-year member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and was retired from C.M. Henry Printing Co., both in Greensburg. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 518, Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, a life member of the Syria Temple and American Legion Post 251. Dick took great pleasure being with his family and golf and card-playing friends, and spoiling his golden retriever, Boomer. Family and friends will be received Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, where service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Strandburg officiating. Interment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Westmoreland Hospice, 532 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601. Members of Masonic Lodge 518 will conduct a service Monday at 7:30 p.m. Terence L. Graft, funeral director entrusted with the arrangements.
