    !Samuel Selden, (1723-1776), was commissioned colonel of a regiment, 1776, to
    renforce the army in New York. He was in Wadsworth's brigade and was taken
    prisoner during the retreat from that city September 15th, and died of fever
    inprison Oct. 11th. He was buried in the Old Brick churchyard with some
    military distinction. The powder horn he carried is in the Boston Historical
    Society. Died a prisoner of war, Am. Rev.;

    Samuel Selden equipped a regiment at his own expense for the defense of New
    York. He was taken prisoner in the retreat,
