    Robert and Emma settled on a grant of fifty acres At Westminster, Windham Co., Vermont. they were among the first settlers in that area. All of their children were born there.

    Robert Rand in the American Revolution:

    Prior to the outbreak of the Revolution, robert served as a private in captain Azariah Wright;s company of the Westminster, Vermont militia 1768-1770. this company consist of a captain, a lieutenant, two sergeants, and thirty-thire privates.. Other members of the company were some of Emma Rand's relatives. These included Asa Averill, John Averill, Thomas Averill, Atwater Phippen, Joseph Phippen and Samuel Phippen.

    During the American Revolution, Robert Rand served as one of the four sergeants in Captain Abner Seely's Company of the Vermont militia. That company was part of Colonel Benjamin Wait's Battalion. robert's term of service was July 1 - November 30, 1781, or 141 days, In that time, he was given credit for eighty miles of travel. His total military pay equaled $12.12.

    Property Dealings in Westminster. Althought Robert and Emma had settled in Westminster, Vermont earlier, they did not buy any property until late 1779. On December 13, 1779, Robert purchased some land from Beldad Easton of Westminsteer for 750 pounds. On May 8, 1787, robert sold five acres of land at Westminster for seven pounds to Michael Gilson.

    Family of Robert and Emma Rand. Robert and Emma Rand had thirteen children. John, who was probably the second oldest, "was scalded to death when about two years old. "All of the children were born in Westminsteer, Vermont.

    Later Years:

    Robert Rand and family were living in Westminster, Vermont in 1790 when the census was taken, Their household at the time included two males over sixteen years of age, and two males under sixteen, There were six females in the family, They owned no Salves. The next census 1800, shows them still living in Westminster. The family consisted of two males under ten years old, one male between ten and sixteen years old, one male between twenty-six and forty-five, and one over forty-five years old (Robert). There were two females under ten years old, three between ten and sixteen, and two between sixteen and twwenty-six, Emma was the female over twenty-six, but under forty-five. Robert sold all of his property in Westminster, Vermon on February 20, 1804 to Michael Gilson for $925.

    Death and Estate of Robert Rand. Robert Rand died March 12, 1828 at Clarendon, Vermont. He was 78 years old. he was buried and has a headstone, in the Pleassnat Street Cemetery at West Rutland, Vermont. Robert made out last will and testament on Decemmber 19, 1827. He named his oldes son, Benjamin, as executor of the estate, It was presented for probate on April 1, 1828. The inventory and appraisal of the personal property of the Robert Rand estate included the following: 63-acre farm-$575.00, 1 yoke owen -$5.70, 1 three-year-old calf-$30.00, 1 black cow and calf -$30.00, 1 three -year-old heifer -- $14.00, 1 yearling - $3.00, 11 lambs - $8.25, 1 hog - $5.25, 2 hives of bees -$12.00, 1 cart $8.00, 1 horse wagon - $7.50, 1 cutter - $12.00, 1 harrow tooth - $3.00, 1 plough $2.00, 5 pewter plates - .62, 6 pewter spoons - .25, 2 candlesticks - .12, 3 dry casks - .50, 7 kitchen chairs - $1.75....... The sixty-three acre farm was sold on December 11, 1828 to Chapman Giddings. After the estate was settled a balance of $72.17 remained.
