    MARGARET (BAKER-SPICER) TOWLE 1843-1916
    ------------------------------------------- EARTH LIFE ENDED MRS. MARGARET TOWLE Mrs. Margaret Towle died at her home on East Early Street in Sac City at half past four Sunday A.M. April 2, 1916 after an illness of four months with particular rheumatism. The funeral was held in the Baptist church at 2 P. M. Tuesday. the Rev. Normal R. Hill conducting services & delivering the funeral discourse, and the Rev. J. Irving Brown of the Christian church assisting. The music was furnished by choir comprising, J. C. Otwells, Mrs. John Maxson, Mrs. A. T. Brownell and J. R. Conklin who sang "Come Unto Me", "We Shall Meet Beyond the River" and then "Heavenly Lamb." Mrs. R. A. Brooks was accompanist. The pallbearers were Orville Lee, F. R. Brownell, J. Wilbur Neal, E. L. Ehrens, and Ed Tobin. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery. Mrs. Towle maiden name was Margaret Baker, she was born in Guernsey, county, Ohio March 16 1843 and when 11 years of age moved with her parents to Iowa County, WI. At Highland in that county on August 2, 1860 she was united in marriage with Francis Spicer. To them were born 8 children, four whom died in infancy in Wisconsin. Two sons, grown to manhood, Nelson and Frank died at Sac City in later years. In March 1883 Mr. & Mrs. Spicer moved to Sac City and resided on a farm in Coon Valley township until 1894, when they become residents of Sac City. On March 16,1904 Mr. Spicer died and his widow continued to reside in Sac City until May 5, 1905 when she was married to Truman Towle of Nemaha. Her home continued in Nemaha until Mr. Towle's death December 27, 1914, when she returned to Sac City. Last summer she constructed a beautiful residence on Early Street, but was not permitted to occupy it long. Mrs. Towle is survived by one son, J. J. Spicer of Sac City, and one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Ellen Gerry wife of J. W. Gerry of Atwater, MN. both of whom assisted in caring for her in her last days. She also leaves 2 brothers, Jacob Baker of Tekamah, NE, Geo Baker of Highland, WI. The decedent was a faithful mother and a good neighbor, and many friends lament her passing. SAC CITY SUN
