That John Arthur m. in 1727 in Middlesex Co., VA to Rebecca Adams who was b. 1710 in Caroline Co., VA.This would indicate that John Arthur immigrated sometime around 1727 from Ireland to VA.
Differences indicated from other sources are: that John Arthur's father's forename was Thomas Arthur b. 1660 in Cullybacky Co., Aurian, Ireland (but that would make his father almost 50 before he began having his children in VA-could be true, but unlikely), and that John and Rebecca Arthur only had 6 children (no Barnabas) - information from Rebekka Cadek.

John Arthur (sr.) b. 1709 in Ireland dated his will on Jan. 9, 1778, though it was not probated until Jan. 1793 (at his death), in which he leaves son, Thomas Arthur, 50 acres on the north side of Goose Creek; daughter, Mary Dixon, 50 acres on the south side of Goose Creek, where John Dixon (Mary's spouse)lives; daughter, Isabella Mitchum, a plantation I now live on; son, Barnababus Arthur, 5 shillings; daughter, Sarah Newman, Betty Green, Isabel Mitchem (sic), rest of estate. Witness: Thomas Leftwich, et al. Executor, Thomas Arthur and Nimrod Newman.
John Arthur appears in several land records in Caroline Co., VA: holds debt of Wm. Hargrove for sale of land Sept. 9, 1743; acknowledged deed on Apr. 11, 1754; John Mackey and Margaret sold to John Arthur of Bedford Co., parish of Russel, 100 acres on Goose Creek on Apr. 17, 1756 (DB 1, pg. 87 and in Order book 1740-46 and 1746-54 for Caroline Co., VA).
John Arthur served as a soldier in the "Colonial Soldiers of Lunenburg Co., VA, including rangers and militia ("The Old Free State" by Bell, pg. 195); he appears in the list of pay warrants issued for militia service from Bedford Co., dated June 27, 1783. Later his heirs put in a claim for "bounty land" in March, 1844, but their claim was rejected (at that time, his heir, daughter Isabel Mitchem, was listed as a deceased heir of John Arthur, deceased).
