Ellen Drake met and married James Chadwick in England about 1884 (when she was only 16 years old)-(Source: LDS "old individual records" from FamilySearch (TM)Intl. Genealogical Index v. 4.02 of the British Isles). She indicated in a later newspaper article that she had "worked out" before meeting James Chadwick and marrying him. They immigrated to America and settled in Canonsburg, PA. where they had five children: William, James, Margaret, Mary Ellen, and Katherine (Kate). Sometime around 1900 James returned to England to tend to his ailing mother (father was already deceased),and soon became ill also (unknown ailment). Ellen then returned to England to care for James; both died in England, leaving their 5 children (oldest, William, was only 12)orphaned and on their own in America. William went to work in the PA coal mines and supported his siblings to adults. He later moved the entire family to Indiana to seek work in the coal mines there.
