Note: The idea that John Davis, Sr. of Baldwin co, Ga. was the father of William A. Davis is based on a legal notice that appeared in the Milledgville, Ga., Union Recorder on December 2, 1856. Supporting this lineage is the following: -- both John and William A. were from Baldwin co. -- I can find no other William A. Davis in Baldwin co at that time. -- William A. Davis b. 1821 was of sufficient age (35) in 1856 to be acting as a co-administator of the estate of John. -- His selection implies, but does not prove, that William A. was the eldest son or only son of John. -- Two other men (Green Brantley and John Kittrell) were listed as administrators after William impling. Could this mean they were the husbands of daughters of John and sisters of William? Later, a similar notice addressed the sale of property of John in Washington co. where he must have had property as well. Same administrators.
