NOTES: The 1900 Fed Census of Polk Co, MO states she was born in Mississippi.
I believe this is wrong, because of the above Pension record reference to her
birth, which she had signed.
"She had never been married prior to her marriage to A. Hopper." "...did not re-marry." (Signed by Samuel J. George. Genneral Affidavit; 28 MAY 1901.
(friend of 30 years)
She and Archibald Hopper had no children together.
Her parents were born in Tennessee. (5 JUN 1880 Census, Polk Co, Missouri,
Roll 710; Vol 27; p 195; Family 79.)
Mary was a school teacher who boarded at the Hopper home. She was kind and friendly toward the Hopper children. After Arch Hopper's wife died he married Mary, who was eighteen years his junior. Mary then became hateful toward the children. The older children moved away taking some of the younger ones with them to escape her. When Arch was very old his daughter, Susan, wanted to see him, but Mary would not let her.
