  • Note: William Johnson Sr. was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. According to the book "West Virginians in the Revolution" it says on page 151, "Born on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, 1755, and enlisted in the Revolutionary Army in Augusta or Bath County, Virginia. He was on the tax books of Kanawha County in 1802, and died, December 22, 1805. His wife, Amy was born between 1750 and 1760 and died December 23, 1837." After the war he moved to what is now Monroe County, WV and lived there a number of years, according to the biography of Julian M. Johnson. The "History of Charleston and Kanawha County, West Virginia and Representative Citizens" goes on to say: "Then he and his sons, William John, Nelson and James, moved to Gauley River in what is now Nicholas County, WV, near and below the mouth of Little Elk about 1798."
