Affidavit from Hugh Smith Neely, dated 26 September 1854 - Stating mother, Jane Neely, at time of death, left the following named children: William B Neely; Robert Neely; Susan Neely wife of Robert Neely (a cousin); Mary Neely, wife of John Richardson, who is dead, leaving unknown children; Margaret Neely, wife of James Richardson, who is dead, leaving one child, Patsy Neely, wife of John G Montgomery; and Hugh S Neely; the Heirs clamin pension in right of their mother, Jane, widow of Robert Neely.


05 Dec 1831 -- Robert Neely & Julia Elizabeth Bridges were married in Washington County, by Dugold McIntyre. Dugold organized the Cove Presbyterian Church in Tazewell Co., VA. He was assisted in this effort by Alexander McEwen. Since McEwen was a minister at Glade Spring Presbyterian Church, it seems likely that he would have invited McIntyer to come to Washington County to be a guest speaker and or serve here in some other capacity. Marriages of record in Washington County celebrated by him are found from 1827 to 1831. ( The Marriages of Washington County, VA, 1781 - 1853, by D. E. Brown, pages 46 & 84)


The 1840 Census shows a Female 60 to 70 years of age. This is most likely Jenny Neely, mother of Robert, as she did not die until 1845.

I find only 1 male child Neely in the census of 1830, age 5 to 10 years, but he does not show up in the 1840 census. However Robert Neely and Julia Elizabeth Bridges were not married till Dec 5 1831. Possible Robert Neely may have been married prior to Julia Bridges, but I do not find any records of a marriage.
