    From the above:
    Jehu Woodward Crouse, as a young man, he drove mules on a canal boat to earn money to go to school. He attended Meadville College, which was conducted by the Methodist Church. He became a zealous worker in that denomination for a number of years. He married Mary Ohl. They lived for a time in Trumbull County, Ohio, then moved on west and settled in Ossian, Jefferson Township, Wells Co., Indiana, near Fort Wayne, in 1849. Here he engaged in the practice of medicine. He became a leader in the community and Methodist Church. He accumulated considerable land holdings and donated land for many of the public buildings in the local town, such as churches and schools. They begun to live like the other pioneers of the day in a crude log cabin in the wilderness, Mary Ohl Crouse, died September 21, 1857. Dr. Crouse married Mary Ann Rogers, July 20, 1859, at Antwerp, Ohio.

    He was one of the first physicians in the northern part of Wells County.
