Nathanial and Grace were married by banns at Wadhurst on 2 July 1769. Both were said to have been of Wadhurst and both signed their names. The wedding was witnessed by a John Rochester and John Swift.

Monumental inscriptions for Lamberhurst include: '383 Grace wife of Nathaniel Hickmott, 27 February 1798, aged 50. Left issue two sons and 5 daughters. Also Nathaniel Hickmott, 8 January 1832, aged 86.' Record of marriages at St George, Hanover Square London shows that Nathaniel, a widower of Frant, married Patience Smith there by licence on 18 October 1799. Patience was said to be 'otp'. The local parish registers show that a Cecilia Hickmott, daughter of Nathaniel and Patience, was buried at Maidstone on 11 May 1807.
