George received his literary education in the Muncy and Montoursville Normal Schools. He studied medicine under Dr Thomas Smith, of Clintonville, and Dr George Metzger, of Hughesville, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1876. George at once began the practice of his profession at Jersey Shore Station, where he remained for four years, moving then to Muncy for one year. In 1881 George and Josephine relocated to Montoursville, Lycoming, Pennsylvania, where he enjoyed the leading practice of the town. In 1882, George established a drug store, which he carried on in connection with his profession. For several years he was a member of the Lycoming County Medical Society. George was a Democrat in politics and in 1881 was elected to the office of coroner of Lycoming County, which position he filled with credit for one term. George and Josephine were active members of the Lutheran Church.
