  • Note:
    ** 1 **
In the Rockingham Co, NC Land Warrants of 1778-1929, 2 land warrant entries are found for a Joseph NEAL. This land appears to be very near the property on Hogan's Creek that Peter O'Neal owned.

These entries appear to be very late however (Mar and May of 1842).

Entry 761. Joseph W Neal 3 ac and 80 poles; warrante #1853 issued Mar 18, 1842 by A W Ellington. for T B Wheller to Joseph W Neal for 6 ac on waters of Pruets fork of Hogans Cr, joins Andererson Griffeth on Nand E, Oliver Simpsons . . . . .

Very questionalbe that these warrants are for Joseph O'Neal who was using the name Joseph NEAL by 1842.

    ** 2 **
In the 1800 Census, is listed with NO children in his household, only a wife.

    ** 3 **
NOTE: I am speculating that the Joseph O'NEAL who arrived in Crawford County, AR by 1821 is the same Joseph who is a son of Capt. Peter O'Neal of Orange Co, NC or a grandson of Capt Peter O'Neal of Orange Co, NC.

The named used in Joseph O'Neal (Crawford Co, AR) family all line up with this family:

    > Hezekiah
    > Marmaduke
    > Asel
    > Peter
    > William

The dates also line up as Joseph, son of Peter, would have been born around 1775-1782, which is the right age for the Joseph in Crawford Co, AR to be the father of his oldest son, born around 1803 or so.

this must be the right family
