Augustine Herman was one of the most conspicuous and colorful personalities of the 17th century Colonial America. He immigrated to America in 1644 and originally settled in the Dutch colony in New Amsterdam (New York) and in 1661 he removed to Maryland.

   ii.Matthew Litherland was born 1811. He married Mary D. Couch BEF. 1835 in Wabash Co., IL, daughter of Levi Couch and Cynthia Higgins. She was born 7 MAY 1812 in NY, and died 12 MAR 1885.
   iii.Mary Litherland was born 1 SEP 1812 in Perry, IN, and died 14 AUG 1848 in Wabash, IL. She married John Wood Buchanan ABT. 1829 in Waba, IL, son of Joshua Buchanan and Susan Ann Wood. He was born 25 JAN 1802 in Allen Co. Kentucky, and died 1872 in Mount Carmel Wabash County Illinois.
   iv.John Buchanan Litherland was born 1816.
   v.James Litherland was born 1817 in Wabash, IL, and died BEF. 1850. He married Mary Wood BEF. 1838, daughter of Alexander Wood and Priscilla Greathouse. She was born 24 APR 1818 in Wabash, IL, and died 17 APR 1898.

   viii.Elisha Litherland was born 30 SEP 1822 in Wabash Co., IL, and died 27 OCT 1905 in Adams Corner, Wabash Co., IL. He married Alzena McFarland BEF. 1843 in Wabash Co., IL, daughter of John McFarland and Mary. She was born 13 NOV 1823 in IN, and died 22 AUG 1908 in Adams Corner, Wabash Co., IL.
