Letter: Pre-marriage letter from William Bagley, Vernon, TX to Alice Atkinson Date: March 2 3:25 A.M., bef 1926 To my darling Alice: {Talks about Alice's friend getting married} Oh dear! marriage, how it claims our chums, our 'side-kicks' one by one. Yours so lately and mine a year ago. Truly, Darling, could you ever love me so? I cannot press for the answer dear. Having been with me no more than you have. But absence for me has only made my love grow stronger. T' was love at first sight darling and it has lasted for more than a year and the sweetest words that I could hear, would be I do, and, I will be thine. Darling can I ever have such happiness? If not, life's not worth the living, and Ah! there I go again, pressing for that answer, that you once , so kindly and so sweetly wrote me, that I must hear from your own lips. Oh dear! to kiss those lips tonite I'd give my life. Just for one glorious thrilling hour with you darling. I could live a life time and die happy in that time. Ah! Dear I fear you'll think me looney, but my pen, or rather pencil, just yearns and cries to speak my inner most thoughts tonite, and I cannot, or will not make it be still.
Darling aren't you just lost in school without Lena Mae? It can never seem like the same place for you I know. But I'll bet that Gertrude is a real 'pal' for you, tell her hello for me. No dear, I don't believe I've heard any of your records, but, I haven't heard any music in so long, that I wouldn't hardly know what to listen for. My! Dear, what wouldn't I give, to play them over, and over again tonite, with you.
Hoping that your dear mother is better and can be with you again soon. I must close. With lots of oceans of love and many many kisses. I am as always, Your own Wm M. B. P.S. Excuse this horridly inappropriate stationary dear. Answer real soon. Billie. {Written on Chaney's Filling Station, Vernon, TX stationary were he worked.}
