The Chessers lived 3 miles up the draw from Sultemeier's. Harry was at the Chesser's. Louise met Harry at Chesser's. Families met in town and at school. The Atkinson's were there first. Obituary: Last respects by a nephew of Amelia's, Mark Sloan: Anelle Rury has a copy of the full transcript. Passages have been edited for brevity. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the privilege of standing here leading to pay our last respects to Aunt Amelia. I am not going to apologize for my tears, they are not tears of sorrow but of joy for all the beautiful memories. May the things we do and say here be pleasing to you and lead us and guide us in all we do. AMEN.
AMELIA AUGUSTA SULTEMEIER ATKINSON was born April 13, 1879 at Junction City, Texas. She married Alfonso James Atkinson on June 24, 1908 and moved to Corona as a young bride. To his union were born 4 little girls, two who passed away at a very young age; Edith and Hally Beatrice and survived by Alice Atkinson Bagley of Silver city; and Edna Atkinson Duplentis of Albuquerque. She had 9 grandchildren; 21 great grand children, many nieces and nephews and friends galore.
JESUS SAID, I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. Psalm 23 is read, verses from Psalm 27 and others...
I wish it were physically possible for my Mother to be here to say to you the things she said to me last night. Amelia was always young at heart, she loved new styles, if they were modest; or a good joke. She was generous, sympathetic, charitable, and loving.
We bask in the sunlight of her helpfulness, humor, and love. When we were in trouble, we would go to her house to gather in her kitchen and it must have been the way we told our troubles, she would start laughing and at the same time be cutting a piece of her spice cake, for which she was famous, and pouring a cup of coffee. Before we knew it we would all be laughing.
If there ever was an angel on earth, Aunt Amelia was one. In life we are held straight by props. Such as our Church, Our Lodge, Our Friends and family, Our Father and Mother.
Aunt Amelia was the best example, First she helped hold Uncle Lonnie straight; Then there were her two darling daughters; her grandchildren; Her great grandchildren; Most of all me. I can always remember her loving care; If she hugged me because I had bumped my head; Or was sick; Or just needed some loving. Most of all I remember how beautiful her home was; the wonderful smells from the kitchen.
Alice and Edna, I want to thank you for the tender loving care you always unselfishly gave to Aunt Amelia. To you Bill and Wilmot - it was most beautiful the way you cared for and loved your Mother-in-law. And to you kiddos - your loving and tenderness for your grandmother. We could all benefit from the example this family has shown. This is living a Christian Life. Thank you for being one of my props.
ALMIGHTY GOD, fountain of all life; thou art our refuge and strength; Thou art our held in trouble. Enable us, we pray thee, to put our trust in thee; That we may obtain comfort and find grace to help in this and every time of need;...The Lords' Prayer is repeated by all...
