These families pioneered their way westward from the eastern states to Indiana during the early 1800s. Some traveled on horseback, some in ox carts and wagons. They carried their axes and rifles and moved into a new land - a vast undeveloped region of dark forests. Here the families of the east made clearings and built their log cabins and created farms.
